Explanation: To answer this question, you need to know the width of each tick mark. Once that is known, you can count the ticks between 0 and y and determine the value of y.

Statement (1) is sufficient: if there are 3 spaces between 0 and x and x = (1/2), you can find the width of each space. Statement (2) is also sufficient: the distance between x and y is four spaces, so if that distance is (2/3), you can find the width of each space. The correct choice is (D).
