Difficulty: **5** (Moderate)

Category 1: Algebra > Inequalities > other

Category 2: Arithmetic > Descriptive Statistics > other

**Explanation:** To know which of the five integers is the median, you need to know the order of the integers from least to greatest. Statement (1) has nothing about y or z, so it is insufficient. Statement (2) has nothing about p, x, or q, so it is also insufficient.

Taken together, the statements are still insufficient, as it is impossible to determine the connection between the variables (1) and the variables in (2), so it is impossible to determine the order of the integers. Choice (E) is correct.
