Explanation: You don't have to analyze the information given you to in the order you receive it; this is a good example of a question in which it is more direct to work backwards. If Z received 24,000 votes and Y received (1/4) fewer votes than Z did, Y received (3/4)(24,000) = 3(6,000) = 18,000 votes. If Y received 18,000 votes and X received (1/3) more, that's 18,000 + (1/3)(18,000) = 18,000 + 6,000 = 24,000, choice (C).
